Abstract:
The author asserts that the concentration of planning services for the elderly should concern itself with the 95 percent of the population which will not require institutionalization of any kind, instead of focusing all efforts on nursing homes and other institutions. Assisting the elderly to maintain independence and social connection, along with providing counseling to deal with loss and other emotional issues, are among the higher priorities, argues the author.
