The author shares a couple of excerpts from the scores of letters pouring into the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America from American Jews desperate to learn the location and fate of their families remaining in the midst of war in Europe and the efforts undertaken by the Society to re-establish connections and to coordinate relief and communication work with European agencies.
