Abstract:
The author describes the afternoon social center, an experimental project to show to the Board of Education that children of school age will use the public school building after hours and to provide children in congested districts a play and study hour. The center is in its eighth week and has provided after school activities four days a week to an average of 340 children per day, as well as a sewing class for mothers. The activities include an hour of quiet study time, a period of sports and games, and a period of story-telling with a local librarian.
