Abstract:
Three concepts contribute to an understanding of the changing nature of Jewish identity: boundaries, dissonance, and choice. Policies that establish more impermeable boundaries are needed to entice Jews to remain within the fold, to foster a greater sense of dissonance between Jewish and American values, and to encourage limited choices. Strengthening Jewish identity requires a retum to Torah study and the performance of mitzvot.
