Abstract:
This article describes the steps taken by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester to establish a Single Parent Department. The assumption is that external supportive systems are able to augment a dysfunctional family. The Single Parent is an individual at risk as a result of the loss of a marital partner because of separation, divorce, or the death of a spouse. The target population of this department are men and women who lack certain home maintenance skills and the ability to deal with an adversary legal system. The department also works with single parents on skills for building new relationships.
