Abstract:
The author examines Shlomo bar Shiimshon's account of the Jewish mass suicide-martyrdom at Xanten in 1096, comparing it with the account of Eliezer bar Nathan, and drawing parallels between Shlomo's theological justifications of suicide martyrdom and the local Christian cult of the martyr St. Vincent.
