Abstract:
The President’s FY2006 budget includes $7.52 billion for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), $506 million less than the $8.03 billion that Congress appropriated for FY2005. The largest single decrease in funding would be for grants to states for wastewater infrastructure. Although funding for other activities would decline as well, support for certain purposes would rise, such as cleanup of hazardous waste sites under the Superfund program, cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields, and several grant programs that support scientific research on human health effects. However, small increases may actually reflect a decrease when adjusted for inflation.
